Many people have things they've been doing since they were young, whether it be a family tradition or just something they started because it was entertaining. For Macy Morgan, not only does she enjoy riding horses and participating in rodeos, but it's also something her family does.
Macy Morgan is only 10 years old but has been riding horses since she was three and has always loved horses and animals. Her parents, Mitchell and Susan Morgan, used to compete in rodeos, and her older sister used to as well. Now, Macy Morgan is taking up the mantle, winning multiple titles at youth rodeos since she was five or six. Morgan does many events, such as pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying and dummy roping—an event where they rope a model, or dummy, steer head on the ground.
Morgan's most recent event was the East Coast Youth Radio Association, which meets once a month in Hillard, Fla. They award points to the top 10 places at each rodeo, which accumulate for year end prizes as well as monetary prizes. They held their finals back in August, where Morgan competed against about 30 other kids. Morgan won pole bending and got into the top five in all of her events in her division, which is the junior division, ages six to 10—she was nine when she won these events. She also won reserve champion all around, which is similar to second place in the whole event. Champion all around means you scored high in many different contests and is one of the most prestigious titles you can earn at a rodeo competition. Since Morgan got the reserve spot, it is similar to second place. For winning the pole bending competition, Morgan received a saddle as a type of trophy, as well as many other awards for her other events.
Macy Morgan's partner throughout these events was an 18-year-old paint gelding, whose stable name is Max.
Along with the rodeos, Morgan is also part of the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA), which is strictly barrel racing. For that, she has qualified to go to world championships by placing first in the youth 2D barrel race and in the top five in the open 3D barrel race. The world championships this year will be held at the end of October, in Perry, Ga.
Macy Morgan is already on her way to becoming a star in the rodeo community. It can be hard to find something to be passionate about sometimes, so to have something you not only love to do but are good at, at such a young age is a gift. Morgan works hard for her titles, and her family is there to always support her. Though she is young, she is already good at what she does, so there is probably much more growth to be seen. This likely isn't the last we'll hear from this young rodeo star.
