The Watermelon Festival is on for 2021! With COVID-19 shutting down tons of events last year, many were wondering whether we'd be having the annual Watermelon Festival this year, or if it would be put off again due to the virus. Luckily, the Chamber of Commerce has decided that the Watermelon Festival will be taking place this year, in June!
The 70th annual Watermelon Festival is planned to take place June 18 and 19. The theme is “Loving the Local Life.” The Pageants, Kick-Off Dinner, Bed Race, Rodeo, Kiwanis 5k, Street Dance, Bank Breakfast, Antique Car Show, Parade, Platform Events, Rotary BBQ, Kids Show, Arts and Crafts and Food Vendors are all in the works and being planned right now. This year, Tami Lester, Chamber Vice-President, and Katrina Richardson, Chamber Executive Director, are the Co-Chairs of the Watermelon Festival, and the event sponsor is Trulieve.
The Watermelon Festival is a staple of Jefferson County, and has 5,000 to 7,000 attendees. It's fun for everyone of all ages and helps boost the local economy as well as promote our area in general. It was missed greatly last year, so it's return this year is highly anticipated by everyone. So, be sure to mark your calendars for June 18 and 19, and come out and participate in the 70th annual Watermelon Festival!
