4-H is an amazing organization that produces a lot of events and opportunities for the youth here in Jefferson County, as well as other communities. Some of their events and such are exclusive to 4-H members only, but there are also lots of fun activities and resources available to non-members as well.
They have a plethora of events going on in April, and one of those events is the Egg Drop Challenge! This particular challenge is open throughout the month to anybody who wants to participate, not just 4-H members. But what exactly is the Egg Drop Challenge? Well, it's a fun STEM challenge involving a raw egg and a bunch of resources that can be found around the house. The point is to make an egg drop device that simulates a parachute and other similar features seen in nature, such as helicopter seeds. The objective is to create a device using anything from the list of pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, yarn or rope, paper, tissue, cotton balls, straws, newspaper, paperclips and tape, and create a device that will slow the decent of the egg. You can use some of all of the materials listed to protect your egg as it is dropped from the top of a ladder or the second story of your house. You can even make multiple, to see what works best. Once you've crafted your egg protector, a parent or guardian can carefully drop your egg in its protective device and see if it survives! Challenge anyone you can think of to try it, and send in pictures to 4-H by the end of the month and they may post them in their next newsletter!
Along with fun challenges such as the egg drop challenge, 4-H is also known for its hands-on educational resources, and those are now available to anyone at their home, through 4-H at Home! Whether you're a 4-H member, a virtual learner, homeschooled or just looking for some quick, fun activities, 4-H has something for everyone. You can explore their resources at https://4-h.org/about/4-h-at-home/ and join their newsletter to stay updated about new 4-H at Home activities.
4-H also has a lot of events going on for its members as well, but they also try to give resources and fun opportunities to everyone in the community. So check out these challenges and resources and have fun exploring what 4-H has to offer!
