When an accident, hazardous situation, natural disaster, man-made calamity or other crisis requires a healthcare response, people rely on a highly skilled group of professionals – those who provide Emergency Medical Services, or EMS – to be on the scene. Their presence is most noticeably signaled by the blare of an ambulance siren along a roadway or the whoop-whoop-whoop of a medical helicopter in the sky going to or from a critical incident.
