Monticello local, George W. Pittman, celebrated turning 95 years old this weekend with the Pittman Angels. He and the Pittman Angels (a group of former students through the years) meet up around five times a week and walk on the Jefferson County Recreational Park Track. They walk anywhere between two and three miles a day.
Pittman is from a small town named Jacob located in Jackson County, Fla. He served in the Army and Air force during World War II and was discharged as a corporal.
After his career in the military, Pittman went to college and received his Bachelors in agriculture and minored in science. He furthered his education and received his Masters in school administration. He has two honorary doctrines in literature education. Pittman used his degrees in education to work for Jefferson County Public Schools. He worked for the administration for 43 years, retiring as the Principal for the middle, high and adult schools. Even after being retired, he is still involved in education and community events.
