A journey toward volunteering

A funny thing happened on the day I set out to write a Monticello News article about CERT needing volunteers. I realized I wanted to be one. The more information I gathered on Community Emergency Response Teams, the more drawn I was to doing the training, earning my own neon CERT vest and helping out during the next disaster. Did I want to be able to better protect myself and family in an emergency situation? Yes. Did I want to better assist a neighbor in a crisis? Of course. Did I want to be an active resource when local times were tough? Why not? So after filing the story for work, I took off my reporter hat and, for personal reasons, followed the instructions I had written for my reader
