John Henry Peck is the Director of Field Operations at the Jefferson County Solid Waste Department. Peck, who is a native of Jefferson County, has been a member of the local solid waste department for a little over 20 years.
Peck describes his job at the Solid Waste Department as “a little bit of everything.” His duties as a director include supervising the crew, offering aid to his workers in whatever way needed and making sure everything runs smoothly, as well as solving problems where needed.
Peck said an average day on the job is: “interesting, challenging, and exciting.”
Peck said that as a child, he was taught to work hard and he pursued a career with the Solid Waste Department in order to support and take care of his family.
Peck and his late wife, Alice Stubbins Peck had three daughters together: LaToya, Kimberly and Tracey. Peck is also a grandfather to four grandchildren: Justin Trotman, Cherish Wilson (deceased), Mason and Harber Watkins.
Peck is now married to Dana Boykin Peck.
Outside of his job as Director of Field Operations, Peck has also had occupations in construction and agriculture.
Currently, Peck serves as the pastor at Shiloh AME Church, where he has served for five years. For the last eight months, he has also been pastoring Centenary AME Church.
Peck also attends New Bethel AME, in Monticello, where he volunteers to help with the church's food giveaway program, which provides fresh produce and dry goods on a monthly basis for the community. In addition to this, Peck is a long-time volunteer with the Jefferson County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 251, which honors local veterans. “I help them out whenever I can, they give us so much,” he said.
Peck continues to support and benefit his community.
