A tree’s view of recovery

Trees have been on my mind a lot since Hurricane Idalia came through town. It's hard to see pines snapped and giant oaks ripped from the earth. For the most part, though, the optimist in me sees all those trees that somehow made it through. Their denuded branches will sprout new leaves, lightning scars will heal to a seam, and where limbs were lost what's left will grow toward a new balance. The general resilience and longevity of trees stand as powerful, natural reminders of what a long-term recovery looks and feels like.
