Adults interested in earning their GED or becoming proficient in English can now take afternoon or evening classes through Jefferson County Schools (JCS).

Adult Education Coordinator Christie Owen says, “Having your GED opens more opportunities in the workforce.”
Adult Basic Education classes for GED prep are being offered 5-7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and 3-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students work individually with a JCS faculty member while progressing at their own pace using Aztec Software's online GED test preparation materials. Cost for one semester is $45. The current semester focuses on preparation for the reading section of the GED, and students may join the class at any time. For more information, contact Owen at 850-342-0100 ext. 1070 or cowen@jeffersonschools.net.
For adults who are native Spanish speakers and want to improve their proficiency with English, JCS offers free Adult English classes 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students work individually with a JCS faculty member while progressing at their own pace using Rosetta Stone software. Owen explains that this class can be helpful as a preliminary step before enrolling in GED prep classes. English classes began on Jan. 27 but students can still join at any time. For more information, contact JCS Instructor Laura Louissaint at llouissaint@jeffersonschools.net.
Both the GED prep and Adult English classes take place at the JCS Adult Education Building, located at 545 S. Water St.
