Agriculture preparations for cold temperatures
Ben Hoffner
UF/IFAS Extension – Jefferson
With the cooler days ahead of us agriculture producers in Jefferson County are beginning to prepare and continuing to work hard on their crops and with their livestock. Citrus growers are working around the clock to get their fruit picked and their trees ready for cold temperatures. Row crop farmers are working to get their last crops of corn, cotton and peanuts harvested and their winter cover crops planted. Cattle producers are working hard to get their winter forages planted – such as oats, rye, ryegrass and clover – for their cattle to graze on for the winter.
With next week’s lows dropping into the low thirties for three to four day
