A Six on Six Co-Ed Church Volleyball Tournament is planned for Saturday, May 18, at 4 p.m. This event is free, open to participation from all churches and includes free food and drinks. A first-place trophy goes to the winning church.
Berlinda and Johnny Morris are hosting the tournament at their home, located at 872 Turkey Scratch Rd. in Monticello. One of the organizers, Natasha Randle, says that the idea for having a volleyball tournament among churches grew out of a recent family reunion she attended, when people who were sitting around visiting decided to start playing the game. So many people eventually got involved that they thought it would be a fun thing to do again as a good-natured competition among churches. Then Randle's pastor, Stefon McBride, and the congregation at Thompson Valley Elizabeth A.M.E. Church got to work making it happen.
“We just want to do something for fun to bring people together,” says Randle.
