Saturday, July 31, amidst a heat advisory warning, the sixth annual community event hosted by All God's Children Outreach Ministry was a go! The team enjoyed the shade and a merciful breeze in spite of the heat, and provided cold waters and food to those who took part in the event.
Over the course of the last two or three months, Willie Ann Dickey and her team has been hard at work collecting and putting together over 200 book bag supply kits for disadvantaged children. Special thanks goes to family and friends of the ministry teams, as well as all the donors who helped to create such a great supply of backpacks for the community. Through the collective generosity and dedication of all who were involved, over 50 children were served new supplies, book bags, and a delicious hot meal.
The All God's Children Outreach Ministry hosts a community event every year, and while this year was a little smaller than the years prior due to COVID precautions, it was still quite a successful turnout. Local civic organizations also came and set up tables, providing information, supplies and literature for the community. Healthy Start Coalition, Jefferson County Senior Center, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), IMPACT, Big Bend Cares, Help Me Grow 2-11, Simply Healthcare and Big Bend Transit came out to support their community. Whole Child with the Florida Health Department had a bus set up on scene as well, providing members of the community with COVID vaccines and health information.
The All God's Children Outreach Ministry has been serving the community since it was founded in 2013. Founder and President of the outreach, Willie Ann Dickey, is grateful for all donors and participants who helped make serving the community possible. “We do whatever we can to help the community, and to help disadvantaged children get a head-start for school.” Dickey said. “We would like to thank the Health Department for coming out here and doing the COVID vaccines, as well as our partners over at Big Bend Transit, who sponsored this outreach. Thank you to everyone who donated, and all of the vendors that came out to show their support. We appreciate them so much!”
If you missed out on donating for this particular outreach, fret not! All God's Children Outreach Ministry is always hard at work to fill needs in the community. While the last week of July is always their annual community support event, the team has already begun accepting donations for its next outreach. Each year, they collect and give out Christmas gifts to families and children in need, and the time to donate is officially open! Anyone wishing to donate money, toys or other gifts should contact Willie Ann Dickey at (850) 519-1801 or via email at willieannd@ embarqmail.com for information on how they can donate!
