Allen Kenneth Forrest (Ken), age 93, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021.
He was born on July 17, 1928, in Cordele, Ga., the son of William Jordon and Peraline (Selph) Forrest. Ken was blessed with a large and loving family.
He married his childhood sweetheart Bobbie on Dec. 25, 1944, in Vienna, Ga. They celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in Heaven. Ken was a God fearing Christian and loved God, family and country with all his heart.
Ken helped raise three children with patience, discipline and humility. He believed that if you didn't work you didn't eat; there was no time for laziness on his farm.
He and his wife were active members of Palmetto Avenue Baptist Church in Sanford, Fla. He was a deacon and youth director for many years, helping to lead youth to the Lord. During his life he served in the Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. He also worked with the Federal Agriculture Department as a fruit and vegetable inspector, later moving to the State of Florida Agriculture and Consumer Department for 35 years. After retiring he moved to Branford, Fla., where he bought a 40-acre farm and raised beef and hay. He was best known for his love of farming and gardening. He worked hard and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He raised his family to live by the word of God. His recipe for a long life was his faith in God, the love of his family and a strong toddy every night. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Radford Forrest; his parents, William and Peggy Forrest; brothers, Wyatt Forrest and Billy Forrest; and grandchildren BJ Forrest and Adam Forrest. He is survived by his children, Ken Forrest (Sheila), Jerry Forrest, Lana Brown (Pat); eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 485 E. Dogwood St., Monticello, Fla. The funeral service is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Oakfield Cemetery in Monticello.
