Allie Dollar bound for Americanism essay contest nationals

Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Branch 34 announced the winners in this year’s Americanism Essay Contest on March 22 at American Legion Post 49. Students from five area counties were eligible to enter, and the winners included five young writers from Monticello. Allie Dollar, a ninth-grade home-schooled student, won first place at both the local branch and Southeast Region levels for her grade. Her essay on the topic of “What Memorial Day Means to Me” has now advanced to nationals.
Results at the local level for FRA Branch 34 (including Leon, Jefferson, Wakulla and Franklin counties in Florida, plus Albany, Ga.) were as follows:
