Animal control enforcement gets teeth

Individuals who are issued a citation for violation of the animal control ordinance and discard the summons will now have to face a judge, per a resolution that county officials approved recently.
The resolution, which the Jefferson County Commission adopted on Thursday morning, Dec. 5, signals the board’s resolve to take enforcement of the animal control ordinance more seriously.
The measure, as Deputy County Attorney Evan Rosenthal explained it, sets up a legal mechanism by which, if a person issued a citation simply ignores it, as has been the case sometime in the past, the person will have to answer to a judge.
