Solomon Lodge #6, located on Henry Street in Monticello, suffered damages to the building after a suspect broke into the Masonic Lodge on Thursday, March 5.
According to the report issued by the Monticello Police Department (MPD), the agency had received a report of a suspicious white male wandering in the yard of a neighboring property on Madison Street.
Officers Sauls and Garrigan responded and made contact with the suspect, who was identified as Trevor Paul Collins, of Jacksonville, Fla., at a property on Henry Street.
According to the report, Collins told the two officers that he had traveled from Jacksonville and had arrived in town two days prior; Collins further stated that he was headed towards a family member's home – but stated that the family did not live in Monticello.
Officers asked Collins why he was at the abandoned Henry Street property, and Collins stated he had just “found it” but hadn't broken into it.
The property, which is an abandoned house, is located directly in front of the Solomon Lodge #6.
During their investigation, Officers Sauls and Garrigan were informed by a nearby property owner that the lodge's front door was open and that it typically is not left open by the lodge members.
Officers detained Collins and investigated the lodge, where they found that the front door had sustained damage; furthering their search into the interior, the MPD officers found that firearms and other items that belonged to Collins were located inside the lodge.
Investigators were called and after searching the scene, an additional weapon was found in the abandoned home where Collins had originally been located; the abandoned structure, like the lodge, also had signs of a forced entry and damage to the door.
On the north side of the lodge, parked into the treeline, investigators found a vehicle that was registered to Collins and concealed so that it could not be seen from the street.
All items were seized as evidence and Collins was placed under arrest.
At the Jefferson County Jail, Collins was charged with two counts of armed burglary and one count of criminal mischief/property damage.
According to Monticello Chief of Police Fred Mosley, this is an active investigation.
