
At a loss for words: Idioms birthed in the Bible
It comes as no surprise that many of our modern idioms have their roots in scripture, since the Bible is an integral part of millions of people’s lives today. Most of the phrases from the Bible are literal in their original context, but they have made for great idioms through the centuries as people have drawn illustrations from the wisest words ever printed.
The Bible begins with God declaring “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3). This is where the sun came into creation, burning hot off the lips of the Almighty. Now, the phrase is often used when someone comes to understand something better than they had previously. It is also a way of saying “let the facts become evident.”
