While most of Florida's high school football teams were holding their pre-season “Kickoff Classic” games on Friday, August 17, the Aucilla Christian Academy Warriors were playing for keeps as they traveled to Albany, Ga. to face the Eagles of Sherwood Christian Academy. The Warriors managed to rack up 458 yards of total offense on their way to a dominating 42-22 victory over the Eagles.
Warrior sophomore quarterback, Brady Browning, had a 70 percent completion average, going 7-for-10 with 263 yards, two touchdowns and one interception through the air. Senior running back, Blake Wirick, had 156 yards rushing on 13 attempts for the Warriors.
On the defensive side of the ball, Evan Courtney had seven solo tackles and seven assists with one tackle-for-loss for the Warriors. Browning also picked one pass off and blocked a kick for the Warriors.
Browning was named the Offensive Player of the Game while Courtney was named the Defensive Player of the Game for the Warriors. The “Warrior of the Week” was Blake Wirick.
The Warriors will return home this Friday when they take on the Panthers of Pataula Charter Academy, from Edison, GA. The Panthers are coming off a 54-14 home loss at the hands of Baconton Charter School. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Aucilla Christian Academy.
