On March 12, a group of 89 students and parents departed the familiar roads of Monticello to spend a few days touring the many sights and monuments that surround our nation’s capital. Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) hosts a trip to Washington D.C. every two years for their grade 7 and 8 students, with the purpose of allowing students to gain a better understanding of and appreciation for American History. While the trip is not necessarily class-related, it enables students to develop a connection between events that they learn about in History and the real locations where those events took place.
Due to the onset of COVID-19, and the beginning of the global pandemic two years ago, 7th and 8th grade students of the 2020 scheduled trip had to cancel their journey to the capital. Not wanting these students to miss out on an important experience, ACA decided to include them on the next available Washington D.C. Trip. As such, this year's trip included not only grade 7 and 8 students, but grade 9 and 10 as well, who would have originally attended their trip in March of 2020.
The group of students spent three days exploring our nation's capital, and toured many well-known sights, including the National Archives Building, The White House, The Capitol Building, The Air and Space Museum, MLK, Jefferson and FDR Memorials, The Bible Museum, The National History Museum, The American History Museum, the Lincoln, Viet Nam, and Korean memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Iwo Jima Memorial, Mt. Vernon, and the home of George and Martha Washington.
Director of Admissions and Development Melissa Moody stated, “It was a wonderful trip and we are thankful for all the memories they made in our great nation's capital.”
Students who currently attend ACA in grades 5 and 6 will be able to attend the next Washington D.C. Trip scheduled to take place during the 2023/2024 school year during their 7th and 8th grade years.
