It might feel like summer's just begun, but the school year is right around the corner, with most students headed back for the 2026-2027 academic year between Aug. 10 and 14. With this in mind, it's time to start thinking about what supplies you or your family need to succeed. According to the Florida Department of Revenue, this year's Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will start on Monday, July 20, and end on Thursday, Aug. 20. This means that if you purchase certain items between those dates, you will not have to pay sales tax, thereby reducing the cost to the consumer. The tax holiday is a popular time for retail shoppers to stock up on needed school and office supplies, since they can bring home essential items while maintaining a fuller wallet.
Here are the items that you can save on during this sales tax holiday:
• Clothing, footwear, wallets, bags, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs and diaper bags with a sales price of $100 or less per item
• Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item (composition books, pencils, erasers, folders, binders, glue, markers, crayons, pens, rulers, construction paper, scissors, staplers, etc.)
• Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less (e-books, flash cards, learning cards, memory games, puzzle books, learning toys, etc.)
• Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use (calculators, laptops, desktops, tablets, hard drives, headphones, ink cartridges, keyboards, microphones, RAM, web cameras, speakers, printers, data storage devices, etc.)
Be sure to check if your child's local school has posted or sent supply lists before you head to the store, so that you can make sure you get the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom this year.
