Backpack Buddies combat food insecurity

Since 2016, the Backpack Buddies of Jefferson County have made it their mission to help provide food-insecure children in our county with nutritious food and words of encouragement. Backpack Buddies is a year-round program; through a partnership with Jefferson K-12, children are selected by the school based on need, and are given a bag of food to take home with them to help combat food insecurity at home. There are currently 40 children who benefit from this program, and Backpack Buddies mentions soon being able to assist an additional 10 students every month.
