Longtime resident and hospice volunteer Barbara Sheats celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday, Feb. 1 with family and friends at the Monticello Woman's Club.
Nearly 100 guests dropped in to wish “Happy Birthday” greetings to Barbara during her afternoon gathering.
Originally from Collegeville, Pa., Sheats moved to Jefferson County from South Florida in 1979 with her late husband and their children.
When the couple moved to Jefferson County, Allen Sheats was in the construction business and Barbara was a homemaker. She and Allen married in 1948. They had seven children: Mark, Charlie, Timothy, Phillip, Mary Ellen, Jenise, and Susie, who passed away six years ago.
Four of her children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren were able to attend her birthday party. Barbara delights in her 27 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Barbara has enjoyed living in Monticello and Lamont. She's been involved with Big Bend Hospice for 23 years and has been an active member of the Crazy Quilters group for at least 17 years and the Monticello Scarlet O'Hatters for several years as well.
She has also made herself available to the Jefferson County Extension Office as a sewing instructor for the 4-H students and Barbara was involved in the Triple L group (LLL), a ministry of the First Baptist Church in Monticello. She also found much joy in coordinating Vacation Bible School alongside her late husband.
Her passion is her faith in Christ and time with her family.
