The Jefferson County Young Boyz to Men (YBTM) mentoring program invites the public to put on pink and join in on the 6th Annual Battle Walk for Breast Cancer. The "Mission Pink" event will occur on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Jefferson Track Field on South Water Street.
"Come by and have fun," says Barry Graham, event organizer and vice president of YBTM.
Music will be playing as walkers do laps around the track to take a stand against breast cancer and show support for breast cancer patients, survivors and research programs.
"We will give space for survivors who come out to give testimonies," says Graham. "We are also planning a candle lighting for families who have lost a loved one to breast cancer, and health professionals will be available to answer questions and give out literature about breast cancer."
Donations and proceeds from the sale of hamburgers and hotdogs will go to the local American Cancer Society.
Jefferson County YBTM held its first Battle Walk for Breast Cancer in 2016. The group's vision overall is to "build a better world by assisting young men into becoming God-fearing adults with the ability to know what is right and the courage to do the right things." For more information on the group, email YBTM2015@gmail.com, or call Graham at (850) 545-6437 or YBTM President David Williams, Jr., at (850) 524-0126.
