For those who are interested in one of the world's most popular pollinators, but don't know where to begin, GrannyKat's Apiary and Bee Learning Center will be hosting a Beginner Beekeeping class on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Those who join the Beginner's Beekeeping class will enjoy an hour and a half of information, ideas, demonstrations and first-hand stories from Kathy's own personal experience. You'll learn about the different roles within the beehive and how to best support wild bees in your garden. View the inner-workings of a real, functioning hive and learn to spot the difference between sections of comb that harbor honey and those that serve as a nursery for baby bees! With real instruments and artifacts, you'll gain a whole new insight to the world of beekeeping, and learn everything you'll need to know to start a colony of your very own!
This class will take place in the Learning Center, which is located at 407 Industrial Park Rd. Class sizes are limited, so register soon! To register, visit grannykats.com or call Kathy at (850) 997-1947.
In addition to the beekeeping class, GrannyKat's is proud to be hosting a second soap-making class, after the first one held was such a huge success! Participants must register to join in on all the soap-making fun. The class will be taught by Shannon Sullivan, who will provide instruction, recipes and samples for all attendees. Fragrant soaps will also be available for purchase after the class. Class will be held on Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Spaces are limited, so register now at grannykats.com.
