Local African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church, Bethel AME Church, is hosting a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31. The event is set to take place from noon until 5 p.m., and promises free food, fun and games for all. The church is located at 410 York St., in Monticello. The church is a historic pillar of Monticello, and was built in 1866 by Sen. Robert Mecham, who was from Jefferson County. The building site was the site of the first Freemen's school in Monticello, and the church was rebuilt in 1975 after it burned down. For over 100 years, Bethel AME Church has been active in the community, hosting family faith-centered events like the upcoming Fall Festival.
