Betty Jean (Brown) Williams, 87, of Tallahassee, passed away surrounded by her children on Nov. 28, 2020.
Betty was born May 1, 1933, to Clea Sconyers and Harvey Joe Brown in Metter, Ga. She married James Elton Williams on May 27, 1950. After her husband’s discharge from the Navy, Jim and Betty resided in Monee, Ill. where they raised six children. They retired to the Tallahassee area in 1973.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many. In addition to her six children, she was blessed with eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Betty was an outstanding athlete and a member of the Portal, Ga. High School Women’s Basketball team and known by her fellow teammates as the “Blonde Blizzard.”
Betty loved gardening, sewing, cooking, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She was a generous and loving woman who always found time to help everyone. She will be deeply missed.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and actively engaged in outreach ministry.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Williams and her grandson Gregory (Greg) Cooksey. Betty is survived by her six children, son, Larry Williams (wife, Karen), of Thomasville, Ga.; daughters, Dena Williams, of Tallahassee, Debbie Gwaltney (husband, Sam), of Tallahassee; Donna Williams, of Lake Charles, La.; Denene Hurst (husband, Joe), of Tampa, Fla. and Denise Seiz (husband, Charlie), of Ocala, Fla..
A graveside service is planned for 1 p.m., Dec 5, 2020, at Oakfield Cemetery, 2642 Waukeenah Hwy., Monticello, Fla.
