A free bike fair on Friday, April 6, at Clifford Brown Memorial Park, will be held in the pursuit of giving out free bikes to Jefferson County adults and children and promoting bicycle safety and physical activity.
Doug and Kathy Kirk, two part-time Jefferson citizens (the couple resides in Kalamazoo, MI for a portion of the year, and “winter” down in Jefferson County), give back to the community through taking used bikes, repairing them, and giving them away to someone who can use the bicycle and give it a new life.
The bike fair is brought together by a partnership between the Kirks, the City of Monticello, the Jefferson County UF Extension Office, and the Jefferson County Health Department.
The event is free, and the bikes will be given away at no cost, though there is limited stock, so they will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The bike fair will be at Clifford Brown Memorial Park, on Chase Dr., in Monticello, with registration beginning at 4:15 p.m., and the event ending around 6 p.m.
There will be other booths from event partners to help inform the public about bicycle safety and physical activity. There will be various sizes of bicycles, ranging from children up to adult.
For more information about the bike fair, contact the Jefferson County Health Department's Chelsey McCoy at (850) 342-0170 ext. 2031 or chelsey.mccoy@flhealth.gov.
