Local advocates of recycling may get a boost from proposed legislation in the next session that aims to address the state’s ailing recycling effort.
If Senate Bill 36, titled the Comprehensive Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan, is approved, it would require the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to come up with a plan by July 1, 2025, to re-energize recycling in the state.
Per the bill, the plan should incorporate recommendations from the FDEP’s “Florida and the 2020 75-percent Recycling Goal – Final Report,” as well as from a technical assistance group specially convened within the department to help develop the plan.
