Bill would ban children from social media

Another of the many proposed measures moving their way through the Florida Legislature is one that would ban minors of certain ages from using social media platforms.
House Bill 1, and companion Senate Bill 1788, seek to block users under 16 years of age from using social media platforms that contain what the bills call addictive features, regardless of parental approval.
The 10-page HB-1 goes into a lengthy definition of what constitutes a social media platform in terms of minors, essentially prohibiting those under age 16 from using online forums, websites or applications that “utilize addictive, harmful or deceptive design features.”
