Every summer at the peak of blueberry season, Blue Sky Farm gives its u-pick visitors the chance to load up on berries and have their payment donated to a worthy cause. In previous years, the event supported the Special Olympics, Jefferson County Humane Society/Wolf Creek Pet Adoption Center, North Florida Wildlife Center, Jefferson County Sheriff's Bike Fund and the Jefferson County Educational Foundation. This year Rose Murray, the farm owner, will be donating the proceeds from all u-pick sales on Saturday, June 27, to Vocational Edvantage, Inc., a charitable organization headquartered in Monticello.
“It's always good to give back to the community,” Murray said. “Every year we donate to a different charity. Vocational Edvantage provides vocational-technical scholarships to students who are Jefferson County residents, to help them with tuition, supplies and even travel to school.”
Blue Sky Farm, founded in 2012 at 1180 Ashville Hwy., offers organically grown blueberries and flowers for u-pick visitors 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday mornings through the end of July. During the fall, winter and spring months, Murray presents workshops and has plants and bouquets for sale at various locations around town. For more information, visit bskyfarm.com.
