Members of JOY (Jefferson Outreach for Youth) are gearing up for their 14th annual toy drive which will provide Christmas gifts for local youngsters. This is the time when donations are solicited to help with the project. Shortly folks will see decorated boxes around town where donated toys can be left. Monetary donations are also needed and can be mailed to JOY at P. O. Box 25, Monticello, Fla. 32345. The children who will receive gifts are between five and 13 years old. Presents are not extravagant, mostly simple available toys: arts/crafts supplies, books, blankets, educational toys, outdoor play items, pretend play items and school supplies are suggested. While JOY is in the early stages of the toy drive, parents will be making applications for gifts for their children. Last year's JOY Toy Drive collected more than $1,000 and 700 toys and blankets, resulting in 120 local children receiving a holiday surprise of thoughtful gifts. To join in this JOYful holiday effort, make your donations by Dec. 5.
