Brittany Hobbs Bishop is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN-C) at Little Pine Pediatrics in Monticello, where she has been taking care of Jefferson County children since 2016. She also worked as a registered nurse (RN) from 2010-2015 in Thomasville, Ga., at Archbold Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Department. She earned her Master's Degree in Nursing (MDN) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2015. Before that, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from Thomas University while working full time at Archbold Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Department. Bishop also received her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from North Florida Community College in 2010.
Born and raised in Jefferson County, Bishop went to school at Aucilla Christian Academy from K-4 to 12 grade. In May of 2021, she and her husband Benjamin Glen Bishop will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary. "We have been blessed with two children, identical twin boys, Benjamin David Bishop and Wesley Hobbs Bishop. They will be three years old in January" she said.
Bishop stated that her favorite part of her job is "being able to take care of Jefferson County's (and surrounding counties) most prized possession, our children. It's something I take very seriously and feel honored to have the trust of so many parents!" She stated further, "I love being able to help and encourage parents with their first child at those newborn visits, laugh about the funny things toddlers say and do and gain the trust of teenagers and encourage them to chase their dreams! Our children are our future; being able to see them grow is something special!"
Being a small town provider, the responsibilities continue outside standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. "During workdays, I assess, treat, diagnosis, and provided continual care based on each child's needs" she said. However, the work does not stop at 5 p.m. or on weekends. After hours on weekdays and on weekends, the text messages and phone calls continue with parents concerned that their child may be sick. Being able to help them through the weekend and ease their minds is something that Bishop thinks is appreciated.
Like all of us, especially in the healthcare fields, COVID-19 has impacted her work. Bishop stated, "I believe COVID-19 has affected everyone. We are still able to see patients for well checks/physicals and sick appointments daily. However, we arrange our schedule to make sure we are taking all precautions to ensure the safety of patients."
Like many people, it was a relative who inspired Bishop to go into healthcare. Her aunt is an LPN and, as a teenager, Bishop saw how her family depended on her aunt and trusted her with health-related issues. "That was always something that I noticed and respected. I have also loved being able to help people, regardless if it's health-related or something else" she explained. Bishop further asserted, "It's always nice to treat others how you wish to be treated. You never know what someone is dealing with, so if you can make them smile or offer a kind gesture, it could really make a difference in their day!"
For the future, her goals are to continue to care for the children in the community and to continue to grow the Monticello office of Little Pine Pediatrics. Owned by Dr. Ronald Emerick, Little Pine Pediatrics was established in 2009 and has offices in Madison, Taylor and Alachua County. The Jefferson County office has been open since June 2019.
As any parent with toddlers, her twin boys are the center of her world, so when she is not working, all of her time goes to them. They are members of the "Monticello Rocks Group" that paints and hides rocks around town. "Right now, we like walking downtown looking for painted rocks in the afternoons! The boys get so excited when they find one!" The family is also active members of Calvary Baptist Church.
Thank you, Brittany, for the excellent care provided to our children!
