Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Fla., held its annual Black History Month program on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 18. Residents and their guests filled the dining room for the occasion. Elaborate balloon sculptures, festive table decorations and themed banners around the room displayed the colors of the Pan-African flag that are commonly associated with Black History: black to represent the people of African descent, red to symbolize the blood shed in the struggle for liberation, green signifying the natural wealth and resilience of the African community, and yellow to indicate optimism, justice and equality for all people.
