If you like to fire up your backyard grill and cook some tasty barbecue, then mark your calendars for the Jefferson BBQ Festival on Friday, Nov. 11. Same goes for all of you chili makers out there. The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is having a cook-off for Veterans Day. So get your spices, rubs, sauces, secret ingredients and taste buds ready!
Entry fee for the Backyard BBQ Competition is $50, and the sign-up form is available at the Chamber office (420 W. Washington St.) or website, www.monticellojeffersonfl.com. Participants may begin cooking as early as Thursday evening, Nov. 10, and should be ready to sell to event attendees by 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Judging by local elected officials will begin at 3 p.m. In addition, a People’s Choice award will be voted on by event attendees. Participants will be cooking in all four BBQ categories: pork, chicken, ribs and brisket. Participants must have an entry in each category. Participants also must provide all of their equipment, tables, serve ware, etc.
The entry fee for the Chili Challenge Competition is $10, and the sign-up form is available at the Chamber office (420 W. Washington St.) or website, www.monticellojeffersonfl.com. Participants will cook one chili entry and it does not have to be prepared on site. They must provide all of their equipment, tables, serve ware, etc. and have one cup of chili ready for judging and selling by 2 p.m. There will be a People’s Choice award for the chili competition as well.
Enjoy live music as the Baby Gray duet plays your favorite rock, soul, country, pop, funk and blues standards while you dig your fork into some great BBQ and spoon up lots of tasty chili.
Adding to the fun of the event will be a Pig Chase, Corn Hole Contest and Ax Throwing Contest.
There is no charge to attend the Jefferson BBQ Festival. Just bring money if you want to buy BBQ or chili, and join in the delicious fun from 2 to 6 p.m. on the empty lot located at 380 N. Cherry St. (next to Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant).
The festival is also offering a sponsorship opportunity. Sponsors will be recognized with their logo on all promotional materials, the event page on the Chamber's website with a link to the sponsor's website, event advertisements on social media and in the newspaper ads for the event as well as the sponsor banner on display at the event. Cost of sponsorship is $750. The sponsor sign-up form is available at www.monticellojeffersonfl.com and must be completed by Tuesday, Nov. 1.
