Captain Jim Iten is retiring from the Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR) later this month after a long and active career as a responsible firefighter and paramedic.
He began working for JCFR on July 31, 2006.
He was promoted to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Coordinator in December of 2007. An EMS Coordinator is an urgent medical care professional who typically has supervisory duties for first responder teams comprising of other EMS and paramedic workers.
In October of 2008, he was promoted to EMS Lieutenant and was promoted to EMS Chief in October of 2009. In October of 2015, he became the A-Shift Captain.
Captain Iten has been deeply involved in the operation of Fire Rescue including serving on the Regional EMS Advisory Board, working with the Medical Director.
He also serves as EMS Advisor for the North Florida College in Madison.
Iten's final shift for the JCFR will be on Tuesday, June 23.
His JCFR file includes many letters of appreciation and commendation for the care he provided to others over the years.
JCFR Chief Derrick Burrus says of Iten, “We are grateful for the fourteen years of dedicated service he has provided to the citizens of Jefferson County.”
Iten and his wife plan to enjoy traveling in their retirement.
