The Summer Reading Challenge is ON at the Jefferson County R.J. Bailar Public Library! The statewide theme for the Summer Reading Challenge this year is “All Together Now,” and Library Director Natalie Binder says local activities will focus on bringing our community together and reconnecting. She and her staff have lined up great activities for all ages, in addition to having open doors for browsing and borrowing.
Here's what's happening in June:
* Preschool Story Time is now every Tuesday at 10 a.m., with books and activities for the littlest readers.
* Children and teens can come get a reading log. Each child who turns in a reading log before Aug. 7 will get a prize and be entered for the grand prize of a children's Kindle tablet!
* Sunshine State reading lists are available at the library's front desk.
* On Thursday, June 8, at 5:30 p.m., and every month on the second Thursday, enjoy the resumption of Literacy Alliance ABC-123 dinners, which also include literacy activities for families.
* On Friday, June 9, at 3 p.m. do some Creative Chalk Art in front of the library, either using stencils or free drawing.
* Also on Friday, June 9, the Big Red Bus will be at the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect blood donations.
* Justice on the Block is happening on Tuesday, June 13, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with a tour of the North Florida Legal Services mobile unit and the opportunity for information about how to get legal help.
• On Friday, June 16, at 12:30 there will be a shortened children's performance of MadCo's Watermelon Festival Kids Show, “Hot Dogs & Cool Cats.” That's cool!
• On Saturday, June 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., the library is offering a watermelon-themed cooling and splash station for the Watermelon Festival. That's a different kind of cool!
Stay tuned for more information about library events in July! The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information about local library services and programs, visit jcpl.wildernesscoast.org or call (850) 342-0205.
