This year marks the 60th anniversary of World Teacher’s Day. World Teacher’s Day began in 1966 as a recommendation of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The day is set aside to recognize the valuable work teachers do every day to help mold young minds and help youngsters become better adults. There will be an international celebration at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France on Monday, Oct. 5.
You don’t have to make a trip to Paris in order to give teachers the recognition they deserve. There are numerous ways to say “thank you” to a favorite teacher. It can be something as simple as a short “thank you” note or even a verbal word of thanks can do much to lift a teacher’s spirits. You can also consider a small gift like a favorite cup of tea or coffee.
The fact that you are able to read this story is because of a dedicated teacher who helped you along the way.
