For the many people in the Monticello and neighboring communities, the news of the passing of Thomas Sutton Wimberly was a heavy weight to bear. Affectionately known as “Sut,” Mr. Wimberly was 102 years old at the time of his death, and left behind a legacy of profound leadership as well as a plethora of fond memories in the hearts of those who knew him.
As such a long-standing member of the community, Sut is missed and remembered by many, and his daughter, Elaine, and son, David, would like to extend a welcome for anyone who knew Sut and would like to pay their respects to attend a Celebration of Life memorial service in his memory.
This memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Monticello on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. Those wishing to do so are encouraged to come and share memories and stories about their time with Sut, and join in the honoring of his life and legacy.
After the service, there will be a luncheon. Anyone who would like to assist with the luncheon may bring a covered dish. All are welcome to bring a dish and stay for the meal.
The family of Mr. Sutton would like to also express their continued gratitude for all the personnel who came to assist and check on him on Father's Day, not only from the home health service but also the police, hospital staff, and EMTs, as well as friends who came to check on him.
