Several years ago, the Monticello Chamber of Commerce began hosting Charity Socials, an event with the intention of raising money for non-profit organizations in Jefferson County. Last Charity Socials event, the Chamber raised money for the Jefferson Senior Citizen's Center.
How it works: Each host of a Charity Socials event supplies
the food and drink with a recommended donation of $20 for invited guests.
This year there were four events hosted.
Denise and Tom Vogelgesang hosted on May 15, for their invited guests.
Oh Happy Day and The Luckie Pearl hosted on May 26, for their drop-in guests.
The Chamber of Commerce and KTCreative, LLC, hosted on June 2, for all Chamber members.
The last event this month was hosted by Michele Arceneaux on June 4, for her invited guests.
These events collectively brought in nearly $3,000, which was donated by the Chamber of Commerce to the Jefferson County Humane Society.
This Charity Social Event is a way for the Chamber of Commerce to give back to the community while simultaneously spear-heading county-wide events that inform people about the upcoming Watermelon Festival. During these events, members of the Chamber discuss upcoming Watermelon Festival activities, answer questions about the festival, and hand out 2021 Watermelon Festival booklets.
It's all about informing people about the Watermelon Festival, while also reaching out to local non-profits, and networking in the community. It benefits the non-profits while benefitting the Chamber, and that, in turn, benefits the community.
Annie Anderson, Board President for the Jefferson County Humane Society, accepted the check from the Chamber of Commerce, and says that the Humane Society, “Is so grateful to everyone who took part in the social events and helped us. Really, we cannot thank everyone enough.”
Anderson says the money will go towards animal rescue efforts, and maintenance on the animal facility, Wolf Creek Pet Adoption Center. “We've been having some trouble with our A/C units in the medical building, so that will probably be the first thing we tend to.”
