The Monticello Community Prayer Breakfast has begun its 28th year of ecumenical service to the community. The gathering on Thursday, Oct. 6, will be hosted by First Baptist Church of Monticello at 325 W. Washington St. from 7 to 8 a.m.
October's guest speaker will be Chris Tuten. A third-generation agriculturalist, Tuten grew up on his family's cattle ranch and then in 2016 decided to start 210 Cattle Co. with his sister, Jenny Hamrick. Their families were the 2021 Farm Families of the Year for Jefferson County. Chris and his wife Shaughnessy have been married for 10 years and have two children, Hugh and Gus. Chris serves as the county commissioner for District 1, the state director for the Florida Cattlemen's Association and a deacon and youth pastor for the First Baptist Church of Lloyd.
The Monticello Community Prayer Breakfast is not affiliated with any church. It is a spiritual idea that continues to survive the challenges of today's society because of its community support and individual participation.
