Dean Jerger has been very active at First United Methodist Church of Monticello for 20 years. He and his wife have enjoyed 50 years of marriage, and, their four grandchildren. Jerger is retired from an insurance company in St. Petersburg, where he was born and raised. He said, “my parents took my two brothers and me to a Lutheran church and we grew up in the same church. My wife and I were married in a Methodist Church in Eustis, Fla.”
Jerger has been on many committees of the FUMC. He is a past chairman of the staff parrish committee and currently serves FUMC as the chairman of the Missions Committee. Of all the committees he has served on, “I enjoy the missions committee the most,” Jerger said, “my joy is serving my community.” Jerger and his wife are involved in Eagles Wings food pantry along with many others. “We are also part of a dinner our church celebrated the first Monday of each month.” The Jergers are also part of the community Thanksgiving dinner, that serves about a thousand meals on Thanksgiving Day. Jerger stated that information will soon be available for the dinner and to watch for it.
The Jergers are also involved in Hands and Hearts for Horses, in Thomasville, Ga. Hands and Hearts for Horses is therapeutic horseback riding for disabled people. Jerger said that he enjoys being part of an active church and that “we all can share our God-given gifts and talents. Plus, our church is part of our family. We pray, worship and work together for God’s glory.”
Jeager’s favorite song is “I will fly away” and his favorite passage is I Corinthians 13, the “Love Chapter.” When not at church, Jerger enjoys “being with family, my mom just turned one hundred” Jerger also likes “hunting, fishing and being on our property.” Above all, Jerger said, “I wish that our community could come together for the betterment of all.”
