This week's church member spotlight shines on Evangelist Mark Johnson from Out of the Doors Outreach Ministry, meeting at 685 S. Jefferson St., in Monticello, where he has been a member for about a year. His involvement began when he met Pastor Edward Williams and his wife Apostle Patricia Williams at the Leon County Library.
Johnson served in the US Army from 1984-1998 as a medic. Once he returned to civilian life, Johnson went to work at Pratt Industries in Conyers, Ga., where they manufactured cardboard boxes. He is retired from that now, which gives him a lot of time on Wednesday nights, which is when Johnson teaches a study of Matthew’s account of the gospel, they are currently in chapter 3.
Johnson's favorite part of his involvement at the Outreach Ministry is teaching and talking about the Bible. Psalm 91 is his favorite passage of Scripture, and when he is not at church he enjoys playing the guitar. Anyone who has been to a youth devotional or camp would recognize Psalm 91 because the first two verses are sung at such occasions: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.
From a chance meeting a year ago to being a teacher of the gospel is quite an accomplishment. It shows growth and a positive contribution to the community.
