Millie Jo Clark has attended church all of her life, “so long, [that] I can't remember how many years ago,” she says.
She is the daughter of Chester “Chick” and Gussie Lacy Routt; she continues to live on her grandparents' homestead on Frank Lacy Road.
Millie Jo is a Jefferson County native and she grew up attending Elizabeth Baptist Church with her family, though she is now a longtime member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church.
She tries to attend Sunday and Wednesday church services these days but has to rely on friends to transport her. She was more involved in church activities in her earlier years, mostly the women's ministry and Sunday school.
Millie Jo formerly worked with Boeing, in Brevard County, Fla., but has been retired for quite some time now and she says that she is just enjoying a more laid back lifestyle in her retirement.
She and her late husband, James used to do a bit of entertaining at their home, in “the cookhouse” as they would call it. It was a backyard, screened-in dining and cooking building that could fit quite a few guests. They enjoyed entertaining in the cookhouse very much.
Millie Jo and James also raised donkeys, which added entertainment and always gave something fun to talk about during their parties.
Millie Jo shares that she and her husband never got around to doing much traveling, as it just wasn't an activity she enjoyed much. Rather, Millie Jo says she finds happiness in staying close to home, where she can frequently visit or receive visits from her family and friends.
