Nicholas Ochoa came to the United States from Honduras 29 years ago and, since 2015, has been a member of the Central Church of Christ in Monticello. Ochoa met Phil Carter, the minister of the Central Church at the time, and the Spanish Minister Henry Flores when he was looking for a church facility to share with a denominational church Ochoa was working with at the time. After studying the Bible with Carter and Flores, Ochoa and his wife were baptized on Sept. 27, 2015.
Ochoa and his wife, Concepcion, celebrated 30 years of marriage before she passed away during the summer of this year. They raised two children, a son Bomfilo, who is 23, and a daughter, Stephanie, is 24. During his time in the church, Ochoa has taught classes and preached in Monticello the Timberlane Church of Christ in Tallahassee and the Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy.
Ochoa has spent his working life as a truck driver, with 29 years on the road. Much of the time was spent collecting and transporting cattle and products for agricultural nurseries. Currently, he transports merchandise to various stores in Georgia.
Ochoa’s favorite part of church involvement is the solid Biblical teaching he gets at church; something that is reflected in his favorite passage, which is Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.” When the church sings, he likes, “Give thanks to the Lord,” a song originally written in Spanish.
When he is not on the road making deliveries or at church, Ochoa likes to spend time with his family and take care of 13 heads of cattle raised for beef. Ochoa is a dedicated worker as well as church member making a difference in our community!
