If there is one thing any organization desires, it is long term members. Organizations, be they churches or business, need long term people for growth and stability. Wayne (AKA: “Snap,” AKA “Butch”) Prevatt and Brenda Carol “Bessie” Prevatt, his wife of 50 years, have been long term members at Olive Baptist Church in Monticello for 25 years. Together they have two sons, Jeffrey Wayne and Mark David. In addition to the two sons. They have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Prevatt is a retired member of the Florida Army National Guard with 40 years of service; 36 of those years were full-time civil service with the Florida National Guard.
Prevatt moved to Jefferson County from Lawtey, Bradford County, Fla. in 1989 and joined Olive Baptist Church shortly after arrival. Prevatt said that he first got involved at church when, as he recalls, a “visitation outreach from Evergreen Baptist Church youth group (in Lawtey, Fla.) invited our family to church. We began attending services. I felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit and became a born-again believer and surrendered my life to Christ in February of 1981.”
Throughout his many years of church service, Prevatt has accomplished a lot. He has been a Sunday school teacher, deacon, Sunday school director and brotherhood director. He especially enjoys working in church camp, visitation outreach, vacation Bible school and the homeless ministry. Many church members have a favorite hymn and Prevatt is no different. His favorite is “In the Garden” to go along with Psalm 100, which is his favorite passage,
When he is not involved in church activities, Prevatt takes care of his wife and spends time with his grand youngin’s. He also enjoys camping, working’ on cars and spending time in his shed. A garden and some chickens also require some of his time and attention.
Prevatt says he “thanks God every day for health and the ability to proclaim His Word. I am blessed beyond measure.” No doubt Olive Baptist church and Prevatt’s family are blessed to have him.
