City approves final budget and millage rate (Slight property tax increase is part of package)

The budget and millage rate that city officials adopted by the Monticello City Council on Monday evening, Sept. 28, will slightly raise property taxes effective Oct. 1, the start of the new fiscal year. It also marks the first time that the city approves a true balanced budget, to the best knowledge of City Manager Marcus Collins.
The budget, as adopted, is $6,077.248, and the mileage rate is 6.8501 mills, which is the same as the current year but represents
