Come May 30, Monticello will be without a city clerk/treasurer. James Griffin, the current city clerk/treasurer, who was elected to the office last November, has submitted his resignation, effective Wednesday, May 29.
Griffin attributed his resignation to health problems, citing high blood pressure and low sugar level issues. As an example, he cited a prior heath incident at city hall where an ambulance had to be called for him.
He told the Monticello News on Friday morning, May 17, that he also didn’t need the stress of the job, which tension had apparently been building.
