The Monticello City Council is scheduled to hold a workshop at city hall on Thursday, Feb. 1, to consider the pros and cons of annexing a group of properties on the city’s southeast, including the Jefferson Arms Apartments.
The Jefferson Arms is a multi-unit public housing complex on East Clarke Street that dates from 1971. The workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Triggering the discussion was the request of John Nelson and Althera Johnson, whose properties on Sage Street lie just outside the present city limits and who want the benefits of city services. Supporting the petition were Pastor Barry Graham and longtime activist C. P. Miller.
