City honors three individuals during Black History Month

In keeping with the celebration of February as Black History Month, city officials on Tuesday, Feb. 3, issued proclamations to three local African Americans in recognition of their achievements, civic involvement and contributions to the community. The three individuals, whose recognition was prompted by Councilwoman Gloria Cox, were Dr. George Washington Pittman, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Connor and Samuel Madison Jr. Dr. Pittman, who turned 99 last August
