City officials wrestle with how actively to pursue code enforcement

Lazaro Aleman ECB Publishing, Inc. The Monticello City Council recently engaged in general discussion on code enforcement, prompted by City Manager Kurt Mackiewicz and City Planner Quinn Atkinson. The two basically were seeking guidance from the council as to whether code enforcement should be initiated proactively or be on a complaint driven basis, as is the case with the county. The discussion began with the need for the addition of “a change of use” provision to the existing code of ord
